Learning by Doing – a handbook
Originally published in 2013, Learning by Doing is a comprehensive exploration of community-led development in New Zealand. Blending theory with real-world practice, it has become an essential resource for anyone working in CLD. While the full book is no longer available in print, a selection of chapters can be accessed online.
In 2013, Inspiring Communities published Learning by Doing, a comprehensive examination of community-led development (CLD) that weaves together both theory and practice.
The book brings together thinking, learning, examples, and results from community-led activity right across Aotearoa. It has become a ‘must have’ resource for people and organisations wanting to empower and support locally-led change.
Noticing change is at the foundation of effective CLD. It’s a long-term game – one where rules, models and evidence only take us so far. We are constantly reminded that not everything that counts can be easily measured. Embracing a ‘learning by doing’ approach helps us better understand what works, what doesn’t, and why.
Sharing diverse examples, stories, ideas, and results from CLD serves to strengthen a community’s ability to succeed. These examples are intended to support and inspire you to use community-led development to make positive change in your place.
Please note: The original Learning by Doing handbook refers to purchase options. The book is no longer available in print, but selected chapters can be accessed online below.
